Charlie Wilson’s War and Ron Paul Economics
...
Ron Paul preaches the foreign policy ideology of Thomas Jefferson and George Washington in an age where doing so is quite unpopular. Neither the Democrats or Republicans are willing to keep the over-reaching US hands overseas to ourselves. Charlie Wilson seemed to possess this trait as well. The Cold War then is equivalent to the War on Terror today. How ironic it is that if it weren’t for Charlie Wilson’s interventions in Afghanistan in the 1980’s the War on Terror may not even exist today. At least not in its current form.
Osama Bin Laden was amongst those rebels we gave weapons and money to in order to help them defeat the Soviets. This was Charlie Wilson’s doing. He like many at the time were blinded by the evils of the Soviet Union and communism. So instead of foreseeing the inevitable economic collapse of their empire and letting Afghanistan run its course, he lobbied to get weapons and funding funneled covertly to the Afghanistan resistance. This propped up Afghanistan enough to push the Soviets back in retreat. Once this was complete, the US stopped the funding. This left Afghanistan out in the cold and alone with 50% of their population 14 years old and younger (according to the movie).

Speak at Nevada State Republican Convention
Congressman Ron Paul to Speak at Nevada State Republican Convention
03.20.08, 11:55 AM ET
Republican congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul has accepted an invitation from the Nevada Republican Party to be a keynote speaker at the Nevada Republican State Convention on April 26th. The Texas congressman came in second place in the presidential preference poll held on January 19th in Nevada, and continues to enjoy fervent support among many Republicans in the Silver State.
"Dr. Paul's visit to the Nevada Republican Party State Convention reflects Dr. Paul's continued commitment to the presidential race and to the traditional conservative movement in the Republican Party," said Jennifer Terhune, Nevada communications coordinator for the Ron Paul campaign. "Throughout this election cycle, Dr. Paul has recognized the important role Nevada can play in the selection of a presidential nominee at the Republican National Convention in September."

Ron Paul Grassroots Cured My Apathy
Local grassroots efforts are shifting the tide.
The old-school party players who only care about their own positions of influence have harmed the voting public by continually providing bad candidate choices in the past. The voters are waking up, and this is evidence of phenomenal work to stop the continued march toward worse/worser Presidential choices from the Remocrat/Depublicans who have grown to be big-spending liberals.
In this case, this highlight county GOP Chairman's Chet Dow respect for Ron Paul voters. Kudos to Chet Dow for working with newly active members of the Republican party.

Ron Paul wins here where it counts
SAM TAYLOR
It appears that solid strategy and a well-organized grassroots campaign put Ron Paul on top at the Whatcom County Republican Party convention this weekend.
While there are no hard figures yet, county GOP Chairman Chet Dow said it appears that Paul received the majority of delegates who will be sent to the summer state convention in Spokane. From there, delegates will be selected for the national convention.
...
The convention went so long — 9 a.m. to after 11 p.m. Saturday — that Paul supporters dug in their heels, and when others began going home, they stayed and maintained a strong presence.
...
Dow said he was pleased with how the convention turned out, and he was impressed with the Paul supporters.
“They’re happy. They should be happy,” he said. “They should be proud of what they have accomplished.”

Living by the Sword
Living by the Sword
Ron Paul, M.D.
13 March 2008
It has been said that “he who lives by the sword shall die by the sword.” And in the case of Eliot Spitzer this couldn’t be more true. In his case it’s the political sword, as his enemies rejoice in his downfall. Most people, it seems, believe he got exactly what he deserved.
The illegal tools of the state brought Spitzer down, but think of all the harm done by Spitzer in using the same tools against so many other innocent people. He practiced what could be termed “economic McCarthyism,” using illegitimate government power to build his political career on the ruined lives of others.
No matter how morally justified his comeuppance may be, his downfall demonstrates the worst of our society. The possibility of uncovering personal moral wrongdoing is never a justification for the government to spy on our every move and to participate in sting operations.
For government to entice a citizen to break a law with a sting operation – that is, engaging in activities that a private citizen is prohibited by law from doing -- is unconscionable and should clearly be illegal.
Though Spitzer used the same tools to destroy individuals charged with economic crimes that ended up being used against him, gloating over his downfall should not divert our attention from the fact that the government spying on American citizens is unworthy of a country claiming respect for liberty and the fourth amendment.
